The visit in May

We spent a marvelous Comenius week in the Alps region. La Motte and the French are great. Thank you for the kindness and hospitality. The Comenius group had a lot of activities to do the project work and to rest actively.

The great idea was the eco fashion show where the students presented dresses made of the waste. What amazing ideas they had!

After the Portuguese visit

... ah the Portuguese memories. We had a great time near the ocean and so friendly companies.

We prepared nice eco bags and instuments. The best time was during the concert of the Let E Be songs and playing our eco instruments. It was fun!

... and we loved the food, fish salads and the pastelles.

Busy busy !

France is very busy preparing everything for the final meeting next week.

We created costumes out of "waste", we filled in the questionnaires again to compare the evolution and we prepared a calendar.
And above all, we are making sure that everything will be ready to host our friends.
We are very happy to welcome them here and show them the beauty of our region.

February 2012 ITALY

Just a couple of weeks and there will be a new meeting in Portugal. Our students ( and teachers) are looking forward to it. We have been working hard to prepare all the things and now we are very happy for our products. The musical instruments are ready. They are strange and big, but it was fun making them. We love the bags … they should be put in a design museum ( anyway we’ll try with Dolce and Gabbana first: we are sure they will appreciate them). The leaflet is ready. We translated it ( with a little help from Google translator) and drew the pictures and the song… well, here it is. You can have a look at it.

Hi everyone !

First, we wish you all a Happy New Year and all the best for 2012.
We are very busy here in France !
At the moment, we are working very hard on the making of the shopping bags and on the leaflet about reducing our waste. We hope we will be ready for 5th March.
We are also starting to prepare everything for the final meeting here in France in May and are really willing to do our best to create beautiful costumes for the fashion show!

Tout d’abord, nous vous souhaitons à tous une bonne année et que celle-ci vous apporte tout ce que vous souhaitez pour 2012.
Nous sommes très occupés ici, en France !
En ce moment, nous travaillons très dur à la réalisation des sacs de courses et du dépliant sur la réduction des déchets. Nous espérons que tout sera prêt pour le 5 mars.
Nous commençons aussi à tout préparer pour la dernière rencontre en France, en mai et nous avons vraiment l’intention de faire de notre mieux pour créer de somptueux costumes pour le défilé de mode !

November in Polish school

In November we discussed the project work which we need to do. One we had to do in this month was to create the lirics to The Beatels song”Let it be”. Each of us wrote one part in Polish and English. Later we sang very loudly. It was very nice! The task for teachers was to choose five students who would go to visit the school in Portugal. We talked about segregation rubbish in Poland, which of materials can be recycled and reused and which can't be. This month was very hard but we know the next months will be harder too. As we have to make instruments and bags.

Visit in Poland and something more

Yes, we know... we are late. So many weeks have passed since we went to Poland ... and we should have written this blog before but... here we are at last. In this way we can remember and remind you the wonderful days we spent together in Elblag.

So, there were 5 students, two teachers and one principal from Italy. Giorgia and Asia, Giancarlo, Matthias and Andrea came from different classes of Istituto Franceschi. Of course they were very excited and a bit afraid at the idea of this adventure. But everything was so fine and they appreciated every moment of the visit:

the school,

the activities at the Baltic sea,

the BBQ in the park,

the visit at the Castle.

But what they loved most was life in families where they really felt at home.

And the weather was gorgeous! Sunshine and mild temperatures ..

The teachers were very interested in seeing what a Polish school was like. The first thing we noticed ( we already knew of course) was that there is one comprehensive school for pupils from 6 to 12 . As you know in Italy we have a comprehensive school but pupils from 6 to 10 attend primary school in a separate building and pupils from 11 to 14 attend lower secondary school in another separate building.

So it was very nice to see the small children and "talk" with them. We also noticed that each teacher has his/her classroom, and this is always a surprise for us. Italian pupils don't move from a classroom to another one during the day ( except for P.E. and music lessons).

It was very interesting to speak with our Polish colleagues and exchange ideas about what we teach and how.

We think that our Comenius is going really well. It broadens our pupils' mind but it also means so much for the teachers.

At the moment we are working on the activities for our visits in Portugal and France ( two years have already gone!!!) , but we are also working for the Christmas party that will be next week.

So, Merry Merry Christmas to you all, Comenius friends.

May the New Year be a good one and may our Europe be in peace.

The French visit to Poland / La visite des Français en Pologne

We went to Elblag from the 3rd to the 7th of October 2011.
We flew from Lyon to Gdansk via Munich.
We met our friends at the school and we went to their house.

On the first day:
Morning:
We sang our national anthem and we explained our works (Powerpoint, puzzle and poster).
At four, we went to a barbecue in the forest, we listened to music and we played all together.

On the second day:
Morning:
We took the bus for the school of ecology in Piaski.
We walked to the Baltic sea to collect shells and other things from the shore. It was windy !!
We analysed the sea water and the river water.
At six in the evening, we went to the stadium in Elblag to see a handball match.

On the third day :
Morning:
We visited the castle of Malbrok. We bought souvenirs.
We went in our family, after we ate in a restaurant.

On the last day:
We went to Gdansk.
We flew from Gdansk to Lyon, via Munich.
The trip back was very sad !!!!!!

Nous sommes allés à Elblag du 3 au 7 octobre 2011.
Nous avons pris l'avion de Lyon à Gdansk, via Munich.
Nous avons rencontré nos amis à l'école puis nous sommes allés chez eux.

Premier jour
Le matin, nous avons chanté notre hymne national et nous avons expliqué nos travaux (Powerpoint, puzzle et poster).
A 16h, nous sommes allés à un barbecue dans la forêt, nous avons écouté de la musique et nous avons joué tous ensemble.

Deuxième jour:
Le matin, nous avons pris le bus pour l'école d'écologie à Piaski. Nous nous sommes baladés près de la mer Baltique pour ramasser des coquillages et d'autres choses. Il y avait beaucoup de vent !!!
Nous avons analysé l'eau de la mer et l'eau de la rivière.
A 18h, nous sommes allés au stade d'Elblag pour voir un match de handball.

Troisième jour
Le matin, nous avons visité le château de Malbrok. Nous avons acheté des souvenirs. Nous sommes rentrés dans nos familles puis nous avons mangé au restaurant.

Dernier jour
Nous sommes allés à Gdansk. Nous avons pris l'avion de Gdansk à Lyon, via Munich. Le voyage-retour était très triste !!!!!!

MEETING IN POLAND / REUNIÃO NA POLÓNIA

How very fast this week went by...

On the 3rd of October Poland greeted our five Portuguese students and three teachers with a surprising sunny day!

The week was so rich of so many wonderful activities: visiting the school, the surroundings, the church of Elblag, old town, the Baltic Sea, the school of ecology, the handball game, the Castle in Malbork, the barbecue in the park, the city of Gdansk... We had a lovely time!!!

Our students begged us to let them stay for a few more days :)

On the 7th of October we head back to Portugal. We were tired but very pleased!

Our thanks go out to all the Polish teachers, specialy to Monika, and to the Polish students and the families that hosted our Portuguese students. This was without a doubt a GREAT week!

Esta semana passou tão depressa...

No dia 3 de outubro a Polónia acolheu os nossos cinco alunos e três professoras num dia solarengo!

A semana foi muito rica em atividades desafiantes: começando com a visita à escola, aos arredores, à igreja de Elblag, «old town», o Mar Báltico, a escola de ecologia, a ida ao jogo de andebol, o castelo de Malbork, o churrasco com famílias, professores e alunos no parque, a cidade de Gdansk... Foram dias fantásticos!!!

Os nossos alunos até nos pediram para os lá deixar ficar :)

No dia 7 de Outubro regressamos a Portugal. Estávamos cansados mas muito satisfeitos!

O nosso agradecimento a todos os professores polacos, em especial à profª Monika, e aos alunos polacos e suas famílias que acolheram os nossos cinco alunos. Foi, sem dúvida, uma excelente semana!

Realizacja projektu pt. Let E Be!- Niech E Będzie! rozpoczęła się we wrześniu 2010r. W projekcie uczestniczą szkoły

Instituto Comprensivo Franceschi w Trezzano Sul Naviglio Milano we Włoszech,
Caparica Colégio Campo de Flores w Portugalii
Szkoła Podstawowa nr 12 im. Michała Kajki w Elblągu.
Celem głównym projektu jest podniesienie świadomości zagrożeń środowiska naturalnego oraz poziomu zachowań proekologicznych w społeczności szkolnej i miejskiej. Zadania projektu skupiają się wokół ekologicznych dni, tj. Tydzień Recyklingu- I 2011, Dzień Ochrony Energii V 2011, Dzień Wody X 2011, Dzień Recyclingu III 2012 i Środowiska Naturalnego VI 2012. Zadania wynikające z realizacji projektu łączą wiedzę z dziedzin przyrodniczej, językowej i informatyki. Uczniowie mają na celu opracować różnorodne zadania ekologiczne w języku angielskim przy użyciu narzędzi technologii informatycznej.

W dniach 3-7.X.2011 w SP 12 odbyła się trzecia wizyta szkół partnerskich. Zadania skupiały się na tematyce ochrony wód. Uczniowie przedstawiali dekalog wody, prezentacje nt.wody pitnej oraz wspólnie układali wykonane przez siebie puzzle nt.obiegu wody w przyrodzie. Trzeciego dnia uczestniczyli w zajęciach z ekosystemu basenu Morza Bałtyckiego oraz badali czystość wód zalewu i miejscowych rzek. Szkoły partnerskie zwiedziły Elbląg i okolice.
Był to również czas wspólnej zabawy i śpiewu przy ognisku w Bazantarnii oraz nawiązania europejskich przyjaźni.

The Comenius visit In Poland 3rd-7th October 2011-10-13

The groups arrived at the Walesa air port in Gdansk in the afternoon. When we got to Elblag the host families waited for us near the school. We went to the families for the first Polish supper. We could feel friendly atmosphere meeting the whole families at home.
On Tuesday we went to school at 9am. to visit the whole school. We could meet other students at breaks. We had a group presentation- we sang anthems and talked about ourselves. After the break we presented the posters with Decalogue of water and Power points of tap water. We made a common Decalogue of all the laws and we got to know that the best water is in France, Italy and Portugal. Now we know how to save water. After that we played making puzzles of the water cycle. It was a kind of competition which was awarded the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes. At 1pm. We ate the first Polish lunch and later we played games outside and saw rollerskating of the sports class. From 4 to 6pm we had a bonfire meeting in Bazantarnia forest. It was fantastic. We ate sausages and played basketball. We also sang different songs and Mateusz played the guitar. It was a great Day!
On Wednesday we went to the school of ecology in Piaski. It’s by the Baltic sea. We went to the seaside to analyze water. We also study the River water. Later it was the the of fun outsider. In the afternoon we went to see a handball match of Super league Elblag Start. It was a great fun. In the evening we visited Elblag.
On Thursday morning we went to Malbork to visit the Castle and learn the history of the place. We bought a lot of souvenirs of amber- the sea jewellery. They are beautiful! In the afternoon we had a summary of the visit for the Project blog. The teachers prepared the next visit in Portugal.

News of the trip to Italy / Des nouvelles du voyage en Italie

On 16th May, we left La Motte d’Aveillans at 8 a.m. and we arrived in Italy at about 3 p.m. where some families were waiting for us. We went to the school to meet the other correspondents and some teachers involved in the project. Then, we joined our respective families.
From Tuesday to Friday, we started each day by observing a lesson.
On Tuesday 17th May, both Italian schools met to watch the different countries’ spots. In the afternoon, all the students and teachers from the project went to visit Milan. It’s a splendid city. In the evening, the students gathered to eat a BBQ. It was a great party !
Wednesday 18th May : we joined the other students at the Centenario Parc where we painted the bridge, made birds’ huts, gathered dead leaves and painted blocks. We ate in the park, then the Italians showed us their solar oven. After that, we participated in “mini Olympics”, that is we did a race, our feet attached to our correspondent’s or we had to dress in a pareo and a funny hat in a record time. The students went home at 3.30 p.m.
On Thursday 19th May, the race between the solar cars took place. Between “re-sticking” and repairs, the race was ok. The Portuguese car was unfortunately damaged by the trip. The Polish car won the race and so won the prize of the fastest car. Our car won a prize for the car the most representative of its country and another one for the most ecological. On this last evening, a big meal was organized, sharing specialities from every country. This was a last unforgettable evening around “games” J We bid farewell to the Polish who could not come back on Friday.
On Friday 20th May, the farewells were more than difficult… L We went to a museum with the Portuguese and in Milan to find small souvenirs.

Le lundi 16 Mai, nous sommes partis de la Motte d'Aveillans à 8h et nous sommes arrivés en Italie vers 15h où certaines familles nous attendaient. Nous avons été au collège pour rencontrer les autres correspondants et certains professeurs participant au projet pour après rejoindre nos familles respectives.
Du mardi au vendredi, nous commencions notre journée par une heure de cours.
Le mardi 17 Mai, les deux collèges se sont retrouvés afin de visionner les spots des différents pays. L'après-midi, tous les élèves et les professeurs du projet sont allés visiter Milan. C'est une magnifique ville. Le soir, les élèves se sont tous rejoints pour manger un barbecue. C'était une soirée géniale !!!
Le mercredi 18 Mai . La deuxième heure nous avons rejoint les autres élèves au parc CENTENARIO où nous avons repeint le pont, fabriqué des cabanes pour oiseaux, ramassé les feuilles mortes, et fait de la peinture sur plots. Nous avons mangé dans le parc puis les Italiens nous ont présenté leur four solaire. Après, nous avons participé à des « mini olympics » qui consistaient à faire des courses en s'attachant les pieds avec son correspondant ou de devoir s'habiller le plus vite possible avec un paréo et une charlotte. Les élèves ont rejoint leurs familles vers 15h30.
Le Jeudi 19 Mai, la course de voitures solaires a eu lieu. Entre recollage et réparations, la course s'est « bien » déroulée. La voiture portugaise n'a malheureusement pas tenu le voyage.
La voiture polonaise a remporté la course et a donc gagné le prix de la vitesse.
La voiture portugaise a, elle, eut le prix de la plus malchanceuse et la plus originale.
Notre voiture a gagné le prix de la plus représentative du pays et de la plus écologique.
Ce dernier soir, un grand repas avec les spécialités de chaque pays a été servi. C'était une dernière soirée inoubliable autour de « jeux » :) ! Nous avons fait nos adieux aux polonais qui ne sont pas revenus le lendemain.
Le vendredi 20 Mai, les adieux ont été plus que durs … :(. La journée s'est passé dans un musée, accompagné des portugais ou dans Milan afin de trouver des petits souvenirs.

WE MISS YOU ITALY!

What follows is a testimony of one of the portuguese students that went to Italy. Here she shares her thoughts and feelings about that one week.

 

«When we arrived in Italy we were so very thrilled to meet the school and Italian students. As soon as we got there we had a wonderful pizza!

We did many amazing things during that week; we visited Milan, we had a welcome dinner, we went to the Centenario Park where we had many funny activities, where we could also enjoy the company of our friends and at night we saw the stars!

We absolutely LOVED this SUPER WONDERFUL week, except for the part of saying goodbye, when we shared many tears and sadness.

We love Italy, it's in our hearts and we will never forget it.»

On 16th May, students from other countries came to Italy for the second Comenius meeting.
On Tuesday morning we went to school and we saw the Portuguese, the Polish, the French and the Italian spot. After the break we commented the spots and at 1.30 we went to Milan.
We visited the Duomo, the Sforza Castle, the Scala Theatre and Palazzo della Ragione. This day was fantastic.
The next day we went to the Centenario Park to build some houses for birds and to paint a bridge and wayside posts.
At 3.30 p.m. we went home and at 9.15 p.m. we returned to the Centenario to see the stars and Saturn.
This day was very funny and exciting.
Today we came to school with our friends and we saw the solar car race. The Polish car won.

On Monday 16th of May some foreign students came here in Italy from different countries. The students went home with their host families.
On the second day, in the morning we worked at ecology spots. In the afternoon we visited the most famous monuments in Milan.
In the evening we went to the parish school and had a fantastic BBQ for dinner.
On the third day we went to Centenario Park and we did some works. For example we made the houses for birds and painted the bridges.
In the evening we went to the park with the Association: Trezzano star watchers and we watched the stars and the planet Saturn.
It was a fantastic experience because we liked the stars and took some pictures.
Today we had the solar car motor racing.
We are sadly waiting for tomorrow, the leaving day of our new friends and we hope to meet them again.

STARS IN TREZZANO

THE ASTROFILI’S NIGHT (18 May 2011)

Yesterday, we Comenius group met at 8.45 at the Centenario Park. Then we watched the stars and the planet Saturn ( Saturno in Italian) from the telescope. We met Mr. Milani. He’s an astronomer in his free time. He’s also the president of the astronomy group in Milan. We noticed that Saturn is smaller in telescope than in reality. We saw the rings of Saturn . There were a lot of students from Istituto Comprensivo Franceschi and their parents. There were also some Italian teachers and the foreign teachers coming from France, Portugal and Poland. This night was very exciting. We would like to meet Italy, Portugal and France in Poland in October.

Last night we went to the Centenario park to see the stars and the planets. With the help of five telescopes we saw Saturn. It is a small planet if you see it in the telescope, but in the reality it is very big. It has got a nice ring. We liked it because it is beautiful. Unfortunately there were a lot of mosquitoes and the weather was a bit hot in the park. There were many clouds but we could see the stars.

Yesterday we went to the Centenario Park to see the stars and Saturn. There were five teachers and five telescopes. The teacher who told us about the stars lives in Trezzano and told us about the association they created and what they do. He told us about his love for stars. The sky was light blue. This evening was cool.

Last night we went to the Centenario park to see the stars and the planets. That was an exciting experience because it was very suggestive, interesting and spectacular. We watched Saturn with its rings. It was very realistic, and it was like a picture.
We saw a lot of constellations, including Ursa Major. Then we saw some stars such as Arturo, a red giant star and some double beautiful stars. It was a nice night.

This is what the Polish Comenius group have been working on since several weeks. The car we are to bring to Italy is built with waste parts of plastic, wood, rubber and the solar panels. It presents a kind of Polish famous mark of Fiat 125. It is a really small mark but very useful as it can park near everywhere. And as the sentence says "Small is beautiful"!

Oto nad czym polska grupa Comenius pracowała od kilku tygodni. Samochód , który mamy przywieźć do włoch zbudowany jest z częsci odpadów plastyku, drewna, gumy i paneli słonecznych. Every Tuesday afternoon, after school we gather to work on our project.
Our ideas are becoming alive... but we can't tell you more, it's a surprise!

Four of these students hosted Italian students in our last meeting and they their friends a lot!
They're counting the days until take off...

News from France : January-February / Des nouvelles de France : Janvier-Février

In January, we worked on car construction (body of the car, motorization, decoration).
We worked on solar cells and we chose some of them.
For the body of the car, we used paper paste.
We put the engine in a tin and we decorated it with polystyrene.
Pupils from the Comenius project worked for the T.V spot : « we worked on the script, dialogues, videos scenes and the scenario ».

En Janvier, nous avons étudié la construction de la voiture (carrosserie, motorisation, décoration).
Nous avons étudié les cellules solaires et nous en avons choisi certaines.
Pour la coque, nous avons utilisé de la pâte à papier.
Nous avons logé le moteur dans une boîte de conserve et nous l'avons décorée avec du polystyrène.
Des élèves de Comenius ont travaillé sur le spot télé : « nous avons travaillé sur les scripts, les dialogues, les scènes vidéos et le scénario ».

solar cookers

This is an unusual blog.

I'm posting a file titled: solar cookers. They were first built for Africa (and the brochure I took the text for explains how and why they are used in Africa), but we are going to use solar cookers during the "day at the Centenario Park" when you are in Trezzano. It's a way to use "alternative sources of energy"

Aim:

Supply with solar energy the public health centres, schools and rural communities of the poor countries of Africa, Asia and South America.



Motivation:

Deforestation and desertification produced by the wood harvest and the breeding of livestock, added to the drought cycles and the climate changes, become a big problem in some areas of the world, especially in African countries.



The lack of wood (experts now talk about “wood shortage”) is so desperate that in some case is more expensive the wood used to cook the food than the food itself. Besides, the constant usage of wood and the consequent deforestation increase climate changes.

The desertification expands and the problem of water becomes bigger.

This problem can be reduced, in some part, by using renewable energies and, in particular, solar energy, abundant in the south countries.

Even if there in the gas (propane) and it's considered as an alternative, the natural free solar energy gives obvious advantages to those countries where there is a high amount of sunlight and, a few economic resources. Moreover using this “free” solar energy, the water sterilization becomes easier for everybody, and not like up to now a luxury for those who have enough firewood or kerosene to boil water.

We don't have to forget that the overage kilometres to walk, to collect some wood has increased from 20 to 40 kilometres.



Finally the women can't find no more dry wood, so they breath a big amount of unhealthy smoke produced by the green wood, with consequent breathing diseases.



Solar energy offers a chance to reduce conflicts between the density of population and the availability of natural resources (war prevention).

Big improvements have been brought to the solar energy kitchens, and qualifications have been obtained for their distribution in all the world.

The challenge that we have to face is the need of 200 million kitchens to solve the problem of the lack of firewood.



The characteristics of the modern style of the solar kitchens allow to use them easily in the regions where there's a low level of development:

-low cost

-low weight and easy to transport

-easy assemblage

-low maintenance request



In particular the “parabolic” kitchens have been prepared for the Developing Help Group of the Professional School of Altotting, German. After several tests and trials in Europe and in South Africa, the improvements and developments made these kitchens very famous in the developing nations, as an alternative for the fossil combustible utilization.



The use of kit with prefabricated components helps the location production of solar energy kitchens.

Few hours are required for the assemblage of the kit components to obtain the high quality parabolic solar energy kitchen.

The kit is easy to handle and can be transported in all the parts of the world; they are prefabricated in big quantity and so they can be offered with sensible prices. The required manual work for the assemblage con be locally offered:

-directly from the buyer or by the final client following the manual instruction

-in small factories, creating new occupations for the local people

-at schools with practical lessons, explained by teachers

Parabolic solar power kitchen use

The parabolic solar power kitchen needs sunlight and an open space protected from the wind.

The parabolic reflector concentrates the rays of sunlight on the pan and it heats.

Parabolic kitchens can reach the same temperature as the traditional kitchens (about 200°C=392°F), and then, besides cooking, allow to put in the oven and to fry too.

The pan is easy to reach. The cook can still cook his/her own ordinary recipes.



It's possible to cook from the morning until the afternoon, thank for the orientating reflector to the sun.

The solar kitchen can take advantage of short period of outburst of sunshine. Parabolic solar power kitchen is perfect for families, and in particular, for small institutions.

Considering the deep reflector curve, the heating point is located in a safety position, inside the kitchen parabolic.

It's recommended to use isolating cooking containers (for example hay basket) with the kitchen, because it's possible to finish the cooking inside them, leaving the kitchen free to cook other dishes.

The isolating basket maintains a hot temperature for several hours, giving the opportunity to serve the meal warm.

SINCE YOU'RE GONE...

Since the French, Polish and Italian teachers and students left us we've founded the «Comenius Club». So now every Wednesday afternoon a group of students gather to work on the activities to the next meeting, in Italy.

The next step is the formal choice of students going to Italy!
Then we have to put all of our great ideas into practise: making of a tv spot and building a solar car!
